DIVE INTO,
OUR STORY

"The ocean is a phenomenal place and I'm always telling people it's a "never-ending film set," but sometimes that can be overwhelming...

I hope that the films and media I curate encourage people to follow their ocean-based curiosities, share their discoveries and add to the bigger picture of our world's oceans. Storytelling in a rapidly changing world (and ocean) is now more important than ever before."

FOUNDER'S STORY

Rebecca's work as a director/producer can be observed at an international level (Netflix, United Nations International Seabed Authority, Sailing La Vagabonde), and local (Manta Watch New Zealand, Project Reef, Love Rimurimu).

Raised on the dramatic West Coast of New Zealand, Bec often tells people "the ocean, to me, is a never ending film set." To her, it's a place full of quirky characters, enchanting questions, and endless adventure.

In 2016, Rebecca was accepted to University of Tasmania's Antarctic Marine Science Programme. However, this same year, she too became the youngest New Zealander (17yrs) to be waitlisted for the prestigious Juilliard Academy of Dramatic Art in NYC, US.

Throughout this gruelling two month wait, it felt as if she were being pulled between two worlds - the scientific and the theatrical.

That was, until she discovered directing for natural history documentaries whilst in New York City. The rest, they say, is history.

While studying her Masters in Communication Studies at Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand)Rebecca founded Salty Slate Productions to pursue her dream of directing stories about life below the surface.  Or as she'd say, "finding the theatrical heartbeat of life below water."

Passionate about communicating economic, environmental and legislative issues within the maritime space to the public, Bec continues to grow her science communication strategies under some of the world's top universities, including Cornell & Cambridge.

MAY THIS BE THE BEGINNING OF A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP
