SEAWEED,
A Love Story

Short Documentary, 22 mins

At Salty Slate Ltd, we’re passionate about telling ocean stories that inspire action, and working with Dr. Nicole Miller from Explore Your Coast NZ has been an incredible experience.

As a scientist, diver, and advocate, Nicole has spent over 800 hours underwater, documenting the decline of Wellington’s kelp forests across 70 km of coastline. Her research highlights the urgent threats facing these ecosystems, from kina barrens and overfishing to rising temperatures and pollution.

Our short documentary captures Nicole’s dedication to both science and public engagement, using underwater photography, virtual reality dive experiences, and QR code-guided coastal tours to connect people with Wellington's underwater world. Through this film, we hope to share her passion and raise awareness about the importance of protecting Aotearoa’s kelp forests before it’s too late.
